Here is a list of foods to avoid or eliminate when on the keto diet:
  • Sugary foods: soda, fruit juice, juices, cakes, ice cream, candy, etc.
  • Grains or starches: Wheat-based products, rice, pasta, cereals, etc.
  • Fruit: All fruit, except for small portions of berries such as strawberries.
  • Beans or legumes: Peas, kidney beans, lentils, chickpeas, etc.
  • Root vegetables and tubers: potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, etc.
  • Low-fat or diet products: These are highly processed and often high in carbohydrates.
  • Certain condiments or sauces: often contain unhealthy sugar and fats.
  • Unhealthy fats: Limit your intake of hydrogenated vegetable oils and mayonnaise.
  • Alcohol: Because of its high carbohydrate content.
  • Sugar-free diet foods: They are often rich in sugar alcohols, which may affect ketone levels in some cases.
Avoid foods that contain carbohydrates such as grains, sugars, legumes, rice, potatoes, candy, juice, and even most fruits.


Foods to eat when on a keto diet: 

You should base the majority of your meals around these foods:
  • Meat: red meat, sausage, chicken and turkey.
  • Fatty fish: such as salmon, trout, tuna, and mackerel.
  • Eggs: Look for organic eggs that contain omega-3.
  • Butter and cream; steak-meat
  • Cheese: unprocessed cheese (cheddar, goat cheese, cream cheese, blue gene or mozzarella).
  • Nuts and seeds: Almonds, walnuts, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, etc.
  • Healthy oils: Primarily extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil.
  • Avocado: Whole avocado or fresh guacamole.
  • Low-carb vegetables: Most green vegetables, tomatoes, onions, capsicum, etc.
  • Condiments: You can use salt, pepper and many healthy herbs and spices.
